Ever Wish You Were A Geek?

Ever Wish You Were A Geek?

I do. Especially today. I felt like a total dork and wished I was a geek or maybe a nerd.

What am I talking about? We’re getting there.

In an earth-shattering move, I created a blog last year. Based on everything I read along with input from other business owners, I choose WordPress as the platform. I speak a little of many different languages so how hard can geek be? Create a Wordpress blog, and then blog right away, right? Wrong! I had no idea that there was so much to creating a simple blog. Picking themes, fonts, categories, SEO Optimization, permalinks, keywords, meta tags, etc. Gad - this sounds like I’m performing surgery! I mean what the heck do all of those things mean anyway?

It was time to chill.  And in my chill, I realized that I was worrying about the details.  And the truth is, the worry isn't good for my health or my business, nor is handling everything myself. So I decided to learn only the fundamentals of geek and hire someone else to do the work. Someone who is much further down the technology road than I ever want to travel.

And then I didn't have to.  A nerdy friend of mine offered to make the blog so much more functional and shared a link to an article she wrote on the subject of SEO optimization.  I knew she was brilliant but OMG!!!, I cried at the outcome!

This Wordpress blog is so much more functional, has SEO optimization along with, meta tags, and I sit here beaming with pride. And you the dear reader get to enjoy the experience much more.

PS....

I turned to UrbanDictionary for the definitions of a geek, nerd, and dork. And the definitions went a little something like this:

Geek (n.)- Someone who spends a lot of time and energy in a certain area, not necessarily computers or technology; An outwardly normal person who has taken the time to learn technical skills. They are generally not athletic and enjoy video games, comic books, being on the internet, etc.

Nerd (n.)- A socially awkward person who has learned technical skills due to the spare time they enjoy from being generally neglected; one whose IQ exceeds his weight.

Dork (n.)- Someone who has odd interests and is often silly at times. A dork is also someone who can be themselves and not care what anyone thinks. Dorks are typically more noted for their quirky personality.

Yep. Dork fits me perfectly.
